X-Treme X-Men #7 (2012)

User Image

I browsed thru it, and essentially:

• She's from 616.

• She's the ambassador of the humans in a world where robots have taken over. She goes by "Ambassador Sage."

• She has her proper "computer-like" mind abilities.

• She identified herself to Dazzler by her real name: "Tessa."

• She looks cool on the cover, obviously the cover-artist used Davis' first UXM arc as reference.

• The design inside is not very good: wrong hair length; she wears a cyber "monocle"; and the costume is a combination of "Revolution" and the real "X-Treme X-Men." One of the interior artists was trying to copy Peter Chung's signature style (Ζon Flux) I think, but it doesn't necessarily work in X-Men comics. Chung himself can probably pull it off.

Another issue, another artist. And the writer has already dropped the ball by mentioning "psychic powers." feh.

Pak says he "came to love" Sage in Murder at the Mansion, so this was never going to turn out well.

On the upside, she's not punching herself in the face. Yet.
(yeah, still bitter about that).

From: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=42952

A reader asked: "Also, what about Sage and the memories of Roma inside her head? How did she get out of the Panoptichron?"

Pak: "That could be a fun story to explore some day. But I'll be entirely honest with you -- sometimes I prefer to let the mysteries in certain characters' histories remain mysterious until the perfect moment comes along, particularly when those backstories are so mind-bendingly huge. I'm just happy to have Sage back in action for the moment. I want to explore her a bit more as a character and have fun seeing her relate to the rest of the crew. We'll see what comes next when the right time comes."

I'm glad he's not going back to the NXL and Roma stuff, but explore her as a character? Pak's Sage is so utterly bland and generic that she could be any plot convenient low level psy.

Heh, the way you used the quote function kind of makes it look like I was the one who said that. I don't care for the new XXM either. Personally, I thought that NXL had a great ending; as far as I'm concerned the Sword of the Braddocks oneshot was her last true appearance.

Sorry, Nadav. You are right, it does make it look like you're the one who said it and I didn't even notice.

So, for the record, Nadav didn't said that at all, Pak did in an interview. smiley

xx X-Treme X-Men (2012) - sales

That's okay. Here are the sale figures for those interested:

X Treme X Men (2012) #1................36,807

X Treme X Men (2012) #2................25,689

X Treme X Men (2012) #3................24,488

X Treme X Men (2012) #4................22,582

X Treme X Men (2012) #5................19,839

X Treme X Men (2012) #6................17,949

X Treme X Men (2012) #7................17,604

NXL was canned for low sales, "Exiles" v2 was launched almost immediately and didn't even make it past the first arc. This new XXM title is basically the same genre and seems to follow the pattern.

Clearly, launching a title on the notion that people genuinely, non-ironically like Dazzler was an unsound decision.

You'd think by now they would have figured out what works and what doesn't.

Anyways, X-Treme X-Men (2013) #9 -- preview:
